They come in painted aluminium, white ABS plastic and 304 stainless steel, and most stainless and aluminium options are pre-drilled, so the screw holes are already made.

Rotary Roof Vents

Rotary vents are often called spinners. Wind and warm air inside your van make them spin, and this pulls stale air out through the roof.

They work while you are parked or driving, with no power needed. They come in white and black, with 225mm and 240mm heads to suit common roof holes, and low-profile ABS vents with stainless steel screws last longest in the sun.

Scupper Vents

Scupper vents are shaped to scoop air in under pressure as you drive. This makes them a good option for pushing fresh air through the van on the road.

The small size is 170mm wide x 113mm high, and the large size is 240mm x 150mm. Inside trims are sold separately and tidy up the inside of the hole, and a service kit is available for the large size.

Steel-Lid Roof Vents and Roof Cowls

Steel-lid roof vents have a strong black steel lid and a cast aluminium flange (the flat rim that sits on the roof and covers the hole). This makes them a simple, sturdy way to let air out, and they come in a small 195 x 100mm size and a medium 250 x 200mm size.

Roof cowls sit on the roof and give a neat, waterproof exit point for flues and pipes. They come in 75mm and 150mm sizes, and each size needs a matching inner piece to finish the job.

Rose, Inner and Butterfly Vents

Rose vents are round inner vents that finish off a cut-out from the inside. They come in 150mm sizes, in either aluminium or white plastic.

The butterfly vent is a 153mm round stainless steel vent with an adjustable sliding window, so you can dial airflow up or down by hand. This makes it a tidy option for bathrooms and wardrobes.

Door and Fridge Flue Vents

Door vents keep air moving through cupboard and access doors. The inner and outer parts are sold separately, and they suit Aussie Traveller DC doors.

Fridge flue kits carry heat safely out the side of the van, using a metal T-piece and an aluminium flue tube. They suit 3-way fridges over 100 litres and have a 120 x 90mm vent opening.

Checking Fit and Compatibility

Most caravan vents do not swap between brands. Flange sizes and screw hole patterns are different for each one, so always check the vent dimensions against your existing cut-out before ordering.

• Check whether the part is inner only, outer only, or a full set.
• Check the flange size against your panel. A flange that is too small will not cover an old hole.
• Check that the screw hole spacing lines up with your old screw holes.
