Thetford Separation Toilets

Separation Toilets From Thetford

At Carac, we’re genuinely thrilled to announce that we are among the very first in Australia to bring in Thetford’s new Separation Toilets, a breakthrough in off-grid sanitation. After many customer requests and growing interest in smarter, more independent camping solutions, they’ve finally landed, and we’re proud to showcase them in both our Dandenong South store and online.

Long known for their reliable portable and cassette toilets, Thetford’s step into separation technology signals a fresh leap forward for comfort, convenience, and sustainability on the road.

Just after the introduction, Ryan from Thetford visited our store to train and educate our complete team about these new toilets. We are thrilled to share what we learned with you!

What Is a Separation Toilet

Traditional caravan or RV toilets generally rely on water flush systems and require periodic dumping of a waste cassette. Thetford’s separation system works differently by diverting urine and solid waste into separate compartments, all without the need for flushing water.

Here’s a breakdown of how it works:

  • Urine is directed into a sealed front tank. Because it's liquid and isolated, smells are far more controlled.

  • Solids drop into a rear compartment, which you line with a solid waste bag for easy handling and containment.

  • Once used, the solid waste bag is securely closed to keep odours locked in.
    When time comes to empty:

    • The urine tank can be poured out at a standard toilet or waste facility.

    • The solid waste bag is tied off and disposed of according to local waste regulations.

  • Since there’s no flushing water involved, the system is lighter, simpler, and cleaner in everyday maintenance.

This means less reliance on dump stations and more freedom to camp off-grid, with greater hygiene and fewer odours.

Why Caravanners Will Love Thetfords Separation Toilets

1. Greater Independence Off-Grid

With no need to flush, and separate containment of waste, you can stay off-grid longer without scrambling for dump points.

2. Superior Odour Control

Because the urine is isolated, smells are dramatically reduced. Closing the solid waste bag seals in anything else.

3. Lighter, Simpler, Less Maintenance

No water lines or flush pumps simplifies installation, reduces potential failure points, and makes upkeep easier.

4. Fit for Modern Setups

The models match the familiar C220 / C260 footprints, so swapping into an existing layout is more straightforward. (We have both versions on display.)

5. Hygienic Finishes & Cleaning

The surfaces are built for ease-of-cleaning, and Thetford’s matching cleaners make it simple to maintain cleanliness on the go.

Our Training with Ryan: Getting Hands-On

When the first shipment arrived at Carac, we didn’t just unbox them, we brought in Ryan from Thetford for a full training session with our store and workshop staff.

  • We walked through every step of installation, connection, and servicing.

  • Our team tested the sealing, removal, and swap-over between urine and solid compartments.

  • We went through all emptying procedures to ensure confidence when advising customers.

  • The training ensures that when you choose Carac for supply and installation, you’re getting technicians who know the system inside-out.

Coming Soon!

To make the new Separation Toilets even easier to use and maintain, Thetford will soon release a range of dedicated parts and care products. This includes Ventilator Kits for improved airflow and odour control, as well as specially formulated Separation Toilet Urine Tank Fresh and Separation Toilet Bowl Cleaner, both designed to keep your system clean, hygienic, and fresh without harsh chemicals.
