Aircon Replacements

If a replacement air conditioner is being fitted to your caravan in the near future, there are a couple of things to be aware of when making your choice of brand, size of unit, type of operating system, weather sealing from the elements and rewiring the new unit into your caravan.

Size of unit

One of the most important things is to consider the size of your new air conditioner, having a unit as powerful as can be fitted has the benefit of running at a lower operating level once the preferred temperature is reached and of course, being a little more powerful means you will reach the desired temperature quicker.

Operating system

All late model air conditioners employ Inverter Technology which make them far more efficient than their counterparts of even 5 years ago, these modern inverter units use far less power be it in the initial cool down stage or when the desired room temperature is finally met. This very efficient type of mechanism makes modern air conditions particularly practical when running them  through an inverter / battery set up, while free camping.

Weather Sealing

All modern roof mount air conditioners come with excellent rubber roof seals or premium closed loop foam seals both of which do a superb job of keeping the weather out and the comfort in. Each unit is supplied with long bolts which are threaded internally up and into the main unit on the roof, once these are torqued to the correct setting, they will firm up the outer seal and attach the unit securely to the roof.

Electrical connection

Roof air conditioners are hard wired to the caravans electrical system, a three core cable will need to be disconnected from the old unit and be reconnected to the new unit. Here at Carac we have this part of the install carried out by a qualified Electrician, this means that the condition of the RCD or safety switch can be tested and replaced if necessary while the wiring takes place, this not only benefits the operation of the new air conditioner but also confirms the state of the whole electrical system within the Caravan giving piece of mind.
